A whole new world in handhelds, trailers galore, but Silksong still doesn't have a release date.

Mid-Week Special Edition

As I was preparing for this week’s newletter, I realized the bevy of upcoming release announcements required a special edition of The Week in Gaming. Happy Thursday to you, we will be back tomorrow with a full report of news outside of the two major showcases.

The Big Teases

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release is once again confirmed for 2025. I put on reading glasses and sure enough, both month and date are still missing. Eurogamer

  • The rumored Persona 4 remake was confirmed at the showcase via teaser trailer but lacked a release date. Rock Paper Shotgun

  • Clockwork Revolution, last shown off in 2023’s Xbox Games Showcase, resurfaced with a bigger and better trailer, but there’s still no release date. Rock Paper Shotgun

Show Some Indie Love

  • Check out this year’s recap of Wholesome Direct 2025. The fifth anniversary of the show featured creative puzzles, sims, and platformers. Eurogamer

  • Don’t forget to also check out the Day of the Devs 2025 recap, featuring Mixtape, Possessor(s), Moonlighter 2, and Neverway. Eurogamer

Xbox Games Showcase

  • The first Xbox handhelds have arrived! The ROG Xbox Ally range was developed by Microsoft in collaboration with Asus. The devices run an optimized version of Windows and enable access to Xbox, Game Pass, Battlenet, and other PC storefronts for portable PC and Xbox gaming. Game Developer

  • Outer Worlds 2 has been announced as the first Xbox Games Studios title that will be retailing at $80 USD. GamesIndustry.biz

  • Game Freak reveals their newest title, Beast of Reincarnation. The title is an action-adventure game with giant beast hunting. Eurogamer

  • The Call of Duty franchise continues with the announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Eurogamer

  • Ninja Gaiden 4 will be released on 21st October this year, across Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5. Eurogamer

  • Bloober’s original survival horror game, Cronos: The New Dawn, will be released this autumn. Eurogamer

  • A Resonance: Plague Tale Legacy was announced, with an official teaser trailer. Eurogamer

  • Double Fine’s puzzler, Keeper, features a steerable four-legged lighthouse and will be launched in October. Rock Paper Shotgun

  • Obsidian has announced a sequel to their pint size survival game Grounded. Grounded 2 will release on Xbox’s Game Preview program on July 29th. Rock Paper Shotgun

  • Dontnod are working with the European Space Agency to make their upcoming sci-fi adventure game Aphelion. It will launch in 2026. Rock Paper Shotgun

  • Former CD Projekt devs turned up-and-coming studio Rebel Wolves announced their vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Rock Paper Shotgun

Summer Games Fest

  • Get ready to go fast. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launches on PlayStation on September 25. Playstation Blog

  • Resident Evil 9 has been officially announced as Resident Evil: Requiem. The title will launch in February 2026. Eurogamer

  • Open-world action RPG Crimson Desert will be releasing late 2025. Rock Paper Shotgun

  • Third-person mech shooter, Mecha Break, will be launching on Steam and Xbox Series X/S on July 1. Eurogamer

  • Dying Light spin-off, Dying Light: The Beast, will be releasing on August 22. Eurogamer

  • The free-to-play PvPvE extraction shooter, Arc Raiders, will be releasing on October 30th. Eurogamer

  • Samurai vs. zombie hoard action game Onimusha: Way of the Sword debuted a new gameplay trailer and will be releasing in 2026 on the PS5, Xbox, and Steam. Eurogamer

  • Vampire gothic Souls-like Code Vein 2 will be releasing in 2026 to PS5, Xbox, and Steam. Eurogamer

  • Warrior-possession, dark fantasy Souls-like, Mortal Shell 2 was revealed with a 2026 launch for PS5, Xbox, and Steam. Beta signups are also available on the game’s website. Eurogamer

  • Last Flag, a capture the flag 5v5 shooter, was announced with a release sometime in 2026. MMORPG.com

  • Multiplayer space shooter Wildgate will be releasing on July 22, 2025. The game also has a demo available for Steam Next Fest. MMORPG.com

  • Lies of P: Overture shadow-dropped during Summer Game Fest on PS4 and PS5. The title is a prequel DLC expansion to Lies of P. Playstation Blog
